In Wii Fitness

Our daughter Annie suffers from Leukodystrophy. This causes her to have very poor balance and low muscle tone. But like most four-year-olds, Annie wants to be just like everyone else in the family. Since her mom, dad, sisters, and brothers all love to play Wii Fit, it was only a matter of time until she wanted to join in on the fun. Until today that meant pushing her way onto the balance board and then just sitting or laying on it. However, today her dad explained to her that it wasn’t just a game for “sitters” and that she needed to let the others have their turns because they were actually doing the game. She sat and watched patiently as everyone took a turn, ending with her mom who did yoga. When mom left to go shower, Annie crawled to the board as fast as she could and stood up folded over like a taco shell. We all laughed at how cute she was. Emily even hit the start button to make the trainer go, and then as the trainer raised her arm in the first posture, Annie blew our minds by imitating her. It was just too dang amazing not to grab a camera so mom could see it when she got done in the shower. Anyone who knows Annie or understands this disease will realize what an amazing thing this really is. Forget helping you lose weight, the Wii Fit just performed a small miracle in our home.
